Fundamentals Intensive in Teaching MBSR
(Legacy Teacher Training Pathway)

Fundamentals Intensive in Teaching MBSR is the first step in the pathway toward becoming a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher through East Coast Mindfulness. This course is designed for people with an established practice and a desire to learn how to share the benefits of mindfulness with others. A commitment to maintaining a personal relationship with practice and to developing the skills necessary to offer the MBSR class in person are necessary. Participants must be willing to show up authentically within the training group, and to bring their unique wisdom as well as their full humanness to bear in learning to teach MBSR.

This online intensive training establishes the foundational principles of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program and curriculum. Participants study and experience the ethos, underpinnings, mindfulness practices, and attitudes that are the basis of MBSR. Language, pedagogical methods, and skills for engaging participants will be observed, investigated, and practiced.

This course will be taught by Rebecca Eldridge and Margaret Fletcher, Senior MBSR Teacher Trainers.

During this training you will—

  • Study the MBSR Curriculum, Protocols and Program Standards
  • Guide other trainees in standard MBSR meditation practices
  • Practice teaching components of the MBSR course curriculum to your fellow trainees
  • Give and receive feedback to yourself and other trainees
  • Investigate the ethos of teaching MBSR: for populations, in contexts, in the marketplace

At the end of this training you will be able to—

  • Demonstrate basic MBSR teaching competencies
  • Describe MBSR themes, intentions, and practices
  • Teach Mindfulness-Based practices
  • Deliver didactic presentations on stress
  • Articulate the intersection between your personal practice and teaching MBSR

  • Completion of an 8-Week MBSR course for personal growth, in one of these 2 formats:
  • In person, with a Certified MBSR teacher in your area, if possible
  • Online live with a Certified MBSR teacher (this does not include participation in recorded versions of an MBSR course)
  • Regular personal mindfulness meditation practice of at least one year
  • Participation in a recent silent, teacher-led retreat of 3 days or more in a mindfulness tradition: this retreat can be completed either in person or online. Retreat must be led by a live teacher (no videos of teachers), conducted in a group setting (not a solo retreat).
