Mentorship Cycle One

Mentorship Cycle One is designed for teacher trainees who have completed the Fundamentals in Teaching MBSR training and are ready to teach their first MBSR course either in person or online. This early, intensive mentoring offers guidance, instruction, feedback, and support as the new teacher enters the MBSR classroom for the first time. Consisting of ten weekly 75 to 90-minute sessions, the mentorship process begins with an initial meeting to cover logistical and practical topics, such as screening participants and preparing class plans. Then, as the trainee teaches the MBSR course, they engage with their mentor to receive guidance that enables them to bring their unique expression of the MBSR curriculum to life. Strong emphasis is given to exploring the intersection of mindfulness practice, teaching practice, and the essential matter of being fully human.

NOTE: Video-recording classes during this first cycle of mentorship is optional. You may use your own 4 audios for this first course, or those of your mentor.

During this training you will—

  • Engage in week-by-week application of the MBSR Curriculum, Protocol, and Program Standards
  • Develop program materials such as class plans, participant handouts, and classroom teaching materials
  • Prepare for, and review delivery of, a range of foundational teaching skills in the MBSR course, using the MBI-TAC as a reference
  • Investigate learning opportunities arising out of live classroom experiences
  • Explore the ethos of teaching MBSR within your specific population and context, in your local marketplace

  • High-speed internet connection

  • Please, no phones

  • Ensure that your computer is situated on a stable surface (instead of resting on your lap, etc.)
